Apply now for the sixth edition of the Padova Model UPR 2023!

Montag, 05.06.2023

The Padova Model UPR is an academic simulation of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) which offers participants an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms and dynamics of the UPR procedure held in Geneva. Through adopting the roles of State delegates, NGOs, and National Human Rights Institutions, participants will gain experience in the UPR procedure, which involves assessing States’ human rights records and addressing human rights violations.

The Padova Model UPR  is organised by an international team of students and former delegates, with the guidance of academics at the Human Rights Center “Antonio Papisca,” and the MA Degree Programme in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance (HRG) at the University of Padova.

This year's simulation will comprise six Teams representing States. Each team will have four members as delegates and an additional member as a researcher (this is an optional role and their participation may be conducted remotely during the simulation). The States (and their corresponding NHRIs) which will be represented by participants this year are:

  • Chile (Instituto Nacional de Derechos Humanos)
  • Mauritius (Commission Nationale des Droits de l'Homme)
  • Mexico (Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos)
  • New Zealand (Te Kāhui Tika Tangata Human Rights Commission)
  • Saudi Arabia (National Society for Human Rights)
  • Slovakia (Slovak National Center for Human Rights)

There are six Teams of  NHRIs. Each team will have one member as NHRI representative and one member as a researcher (optional, and their participation can be remote during the simulation days).

Another set of six Teams will represent  INGOs. Each team will have one  member as NGO representative and one  member as a researcher (optional, and their participation can be remote during the simulation days). The INGOs  which will be represented by participants this year are:

  • ECPAT International
  • Equality Now
  • ILGA World
  • International Disability Alliance (IDA)
  • World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT)
  • World Resource Institute (WRI)
