Successful Graduation for E.MA Guest Students / Erfolgreicher Abschluss für E.MA-Gaststudierende

Jasmien Deklerck among top 15 of the class / Jasmien Deklerck unter den besten 15 des Jahrgangs

The European Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) stands for academic excellence and students' mobility. The UNI-ETC welcomes E.MA students in Graz every year to write their Master Theses during summer semester. This year’s guest students Jasmien Deklerck, Vanille Pieper and Vasiliki Voziki, were particularly successful despite the extraordinary challenges posed by the COVID-19-pandemic. Due to the latter, "our" E.MA-students sadly could only spend about one and a half months in Graz physically. This did not stop them from authoring master theses of great quality and excelling in their defences. Jasmien Deklerck especially stood out performing amongst the top 15 students in the ranking of over 80 peers. The UNI-ETC team cordially congratulates on this fantastic success!

The Ceremony of the Awarding of Diplomas of E.MA and inauguration of the Academic Year 2020/2021 took place on the 4th October 2020 in the magnificent Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice. Due to COVID, not all students and staff were present to guarantee compliance with health and safety guidelines.

Law from the Machine?

In ancient Greek, apò mēkhanês Theós (more well-known in Latin as "Deus ex machina") describes the way mythological figures appeared in theaters seemingly from thin air, instantly influencing the plot. Today, Artificial Intelligence might exert similar effects in legal proceedings. Students from our faculty are currently taking a deep dive into this matter in a human rights moot court competition, inter alia, in Greece - and they are doing so with great success.
