Offener Brief für menschenrechtskonforme Polizeireformen

Die besorgniserregenden Vorfälle und weltweiten Proteste gegen Rassismus und Polizeigewalt zeigten, wie wichtig die wirksame Aufarbeitung von Menschenrechtsverletzungen für ein vertrauensvolles Verhältnis zwischen Polizei und Bürger*innen und somit für den gesellschaftlichen Frieden ist.

In diesem Zusammenhang beziehen Amnesty International Österreich und epicenter.works in einem offenen Brief an Innenminister Nehammer, Justizministerin Zadić sowie an die Nationalratsabgeordneten Mahrer und Bürstmayr Stellung. Sie fordern eine wirksame Aufarbeitung von Menschenrechtsverletzungen seitens der Polizei. Dies soll durch die Einhaltung internationaler Standards, die Sicherstellung umfassender Funktionen der unabhängigen Ermittlungs- und Beschwerdestelle, die Kennzeichnungspflicht für Polizeibeamt*innen sowie die Einbindung der Zivilgesellschaft für eine breite Unterstützung der Reform geschehen.

Das UNESCO Zentrum zur Förderung der Menschenrechte in Gemeinden und Regionen sowie der UNESCO Lehrstuhl in Menschenrechte und Menschliche Sicherheit an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz zählen zu den nunmehr 40 zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen, die diesen offenen Brief unterschrieben haben und die Forderungen unterstützen.
