Guest Lecture by Ukrainian Researcher Launches Lecture Series within FreeAc Project

Poster event

On 2 June 2025, the first lecture in the guest lecture series “Ukrainian Voices: Academic Freedom in a Changing World” took place as part of the Erasmus+ project “Promoting Academic Freedom in Ukraine” (FreeAc, ID KA220-HED-AB735F9).

The event was held online via Zoom and brought together over 60 participants from across Europe. The lecture, titled “Wartime Civic Engagement: A Gender Perspective on Technology’s Role in Activism,” was delivered by Dr Olga Matveieva, a PSI research fellow at the Marie Jahoda Center for International Gender Studies at Ruhr-University Bochum and an Associate Professor of Public Administration at Dnipro University of Technology (Ukraine).

Dr Matveieva explored the role of digital technologies in facilitating civic activism during wartime, highlighting how gender perspectives offer crucial insights into democratic transformation processes and collaborative governance in Eastern Europe. The lecture demonstrated the importance of amplifying Ukrainian scholarly voices in the international academic arena.

This lecture series is jointly hosted by the University of Graz (Austria) and the University of Poznań (Poland). It aims to strengthen the visibility of Ukrainian scholarship in Europe, foster international academic exchange, and support academic freedom in times of war.

Further information about the series and future lectures is available on the FreeAc project website.
