On 26 May 2026, an online workshop “Gender-sensitive Higher Education Didactics” was held within the Erasmus+ project “Promoting Academic Freedom in Ukraine (FreeAc)”, organised by the European Training and Research Centre for Human Rights and Democracy at the University of Graz. The workshop brought together representatives of partner universities (Sumy State University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the International University in Odesa) to discuss approaches to gender- and diversity-sensitive teaching in higher education.
The workshop was led by Lisa Scheer, a sociologist with expertise in Higher Education and Gender Studies who works at the University of Graz Competence Center for University Teaching. Her professional focus includes diversity sensitivity, assessment, teaching portfolios, and the development of teaching practices in higher education.
During the session, participants explored how to create inclusive classroom environments in which students’ diverse needs, perspectives, and experiences are respected and valued. Particular attention was paid to practical aspects of course design, preparation of teaching materials and exercises, communication with students, and assessment practices from a gender- and diversity-sensitive perspective. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, participants reflected on the challenges that may arise when implementing diversity-sensitive approaches in teaching and exchanged experiences on how to address them effectively.
