REWI-Studierende holen im Veneto „Best Padova Model UPR 2019 Team“-Award – wir gratulieren!

Im Rahmen des seit 2007 praktizierten Universal Periodic Review (UPR) beim UN-Menschenrechtsrat nehmen Staaten auf kooperative Art und Weise gegenseitig ihre Menschenrechtsperformance unter die Lupe. Auch die Zivilgesellschaft und nationale Menschenrechtsinstitutionen werden dabei mit einbezogen. Von 27. bis 29. November 2019 simulierten Studierende 8 verschiedener Universitäten in 5 Staaten dieses Verfahren am Menschenrechtszentrum „Antonio Papisca“ der Universität Padova. Organisator Prof. Paolo de Stefani und sein Organisationsteam teilten den 12 teilnehmenden Teams ebenso viele Staaten zu, die sie folglich auf der diplomatischen Bühne zu vertreten hatten.

Die antretenden Studierenden der Universität Graz, Maria-Angela Brunner, Magdalena Pfeifenberger und Laura Mische, vertraten in dem Planspiel die Volksrepublik China als Reviewing State bzw. die NGO Save the Children. Nach Meinung der JurorInnen (u. a. UN-Vertreterinnen) überzeugten die Studierenden in der Zusammenschau ihrer Leistungen in allen Abschnitten der Simulation am meisten, weshalb sie den prestigeträchtigsten Preis für das „Best Padova Model UPR 2019 Team“ mit nachhause nahmen.

Das Betreuerteam des UNI-ETC, Prof. Gerd Oberleitner und Mag. Gregor Fischer, gratuliert herzlich zu diesem schönen Erfolg und strebt eine Intensivierung der Aktivitäten im Bereich Model-UPR an.
