Studying, understanding and living human rights
The European Training and Research Centre for Human Rights and Democracy offers a portfolio of courses in law and other master's programs that enable students to understand human rights. For us, human rights education (in the sense of the United Nations World Programme on Human Rights Education) is learning that promotes values, beliefs and attitudes that encourage all people to uphold their own rights and the rights of others and to develop an understanding of the shared responsibility of all to realize human rights in every community. The acquisition of knowledge, criticism and discourse on human rights issues should enable students to actively campaign for human rights and democracy. This goes beyond an understanding of legal norms and emphasizes the development of skills and the practical application of knowledge to develop effective solutions to global challenges based on universal human rights.
