The European Convention on Human Rights in Theory and Practice

In this course, DDr.ⁱⁿ Elisabeth Steiner, formerly Judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg for 14 years, provides a practice-orientated view on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Students prepare presentations on selected cases of the ECtHR in groups of 3-4 students, which are discussed in class. Students are expected to delve into the cases before the sessions in order to be able to actively engage in debates during the course. Furthermore, a two-day study visit to Strasbourg is planned with a visit to the ECtHR, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.
