Rotes Kreuz ehrt Wolfgang Benedek mit Humanitätspreis

Das Österreichische Rote Kreuz (ÖRK) verlieh den Humanitätspreis der Heinrich-Treichl-Stiftung an Prof. Wolfgang Benedek

Am 21. September 2016 durfte Prof. Wolfgang Benedek, Vorstand des Institutes für Völkerrecht und Internationale Beziehungen der Universität Graz und Leiter des UNI-ETC, den Humanitätspreis der Heinrich-Treichl-Stiftung entgegennehmen. ÖRK-Präsident Gerald Schöpfer hob Benedeks Engagement in Erforschung, Weiterentwicklung,  Verbreitung und Durchsetzung der Menschenrechte hervor, das sich nicht in der akademischen Auseinandersetzung erschöpfe, sondern die Rolle der Menschenrechte im Alltag betone. Die Etablierung von Menschenrechtszentren in aller Welt, der Grazer Institutionen ETC und UNI-ETC und von einschlägigen Lehrveranstaltungen (wie etwa die"Grazer Refugee Law Clinic") wurden bei der Verleihung als Meilensteine in Benedeks Schaffen angeführt.

Prof. Benedek beschrieb seinen menschenrechtlichen Ansatz in seiner Danksagung: "Mir geht es um Menschen, darum, den humanitären Ansatz in den Mittelpunkt meiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit und meines sonstigen Tuns zu stellen."

Diese Philosphie bleibt an unserem Zentrum als zentrale Vorgabe verankert, und das gesamte Team des UNI-ETC gibt sich die Ehre, unserem Chef recht herzlich zu gratulieren!
