Human Rights Perspectives from Ethiopia – under this umbrella title, Sisay Mengistie Addisu, Fasil Mulatu Gessesse and Getahun Kassa, lecturers at the Center for Human Rights in of Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, offered insights into their current research. Prof. Stefan Storr, Dean of the Faculty of Law, opened the lunch lecture, which took place on 17 May 2017, with a welcome address.
The three Ethiopian scholars’ contributions on international criminal justice and accountability for gross human rights violations in Africa; legal and practical uncertainties for the protection of adolescent migrants in Africa, and the rights of minorities offered thought-provoking impulses for discussion on contemporary human rights issues in Africa and beyond.
The lecture was part of a four-week research trip to Graz. The visiting scholars conducted research at the Institute for International Law of the KFU Graz and at the European Training and Research Center for Human Rights and Democracy of the University of Graz (UNI-ETC), carried out research at the university library and made contacts with the scientific staff of the University.
Their research visit was part of the AAPLHRE (Advanced Academic Partnership for Legal and Human Rights Education) – project. The project is funded by APPEAR, a programme of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
