Internationaler Workshop zur Umsetzung der Menschenrechte in Äthiopien

Wolfgang Benedek und Bernadette Knauder: Forschungsworkshop im Rahmen von APPEAR (Austrian Partnership für Higher Education and Research in Development) in Äthiopien

Vom 10.-13. Jänner 2018 fand im Rahmen des vom Institut für Internationales Recht und Internationale Beziehungen der Rechtsfakultät der Universität Graz mit der School of Law and Federalism der Ethiopian Civil Service University und dem Menschenrechtszentrum der Addis Abeba University durchgeführten APPEAR (Austrian Partnership für Higher Education and Research in Development)-Projektes über Advanced Academic Partnership on Legal and Human Rights Education (AAPHRE) ein Forschungsworkshop über "Assessing Implementation of International Human Rights Commitments in a Developing Country: Lessons from Ethiopia” statt an dem äthiopische Hochschullehrer aus fünf äthiopischen Universitäten sowie von der Universität Graz Univ.-Prof.i.R. Dr. Wolfgang Benedek als Projektleiter und Mag.a Bernadette Knauder als Projektkoordinatorin teilnahmen. Die 15 Beiträge zu Menschenrechtsfragen in Äthiopien wurden intensiv ohne Tabus diskutiert und werden nun für eine gemeinsame Publikation der Partner fertig gestellt.

Bereits im November hatte eine gemeinsame Human Rights Academy an der Universität von Mekele im Norden Äthiopiens stattgefunden, die sich im Sinne eines Politikdialogs mit der Frage der besseren Verwirklichung der in der äthiopischen Verfassung verbrieften Rechte befasst hatte. Derzeit arbeiten an der Rechtsfakultät drei äthiopische DoktoratsstudentInnen. Forschungsaufenthalte äthiopischer KollegInnen an der Fakultät und Lehr- und Forschungsaufenthalte von Fakultätsmitgliedern in Äthiopien ergänzen das Programm, das mit Ende des Jahres abgeschlossen werden soll.
