Within the Erasmus+ project “Promoting Academic Freedom in Ukraine (FreeAc)”, an online webinar titled “AI in Higher Education Teaching” was held on 3 December 2025.

The event brought together lecturers and administrative staff from the project’s Ukrainian partner universities (International Humanitarian University in Odesa, Sumy State University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv). The workshop was delivered by Simone Adams, Instructional Design and Educational Technology Specialist at the Center for Digital Teaching and Learning, University of Graz, and Barbora Orlická, Instructional Designer at the Center for Digital Teaching and Learning, University of Graz.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to the technical foundations of generative AI and discussed its growing role in higher education. The speakers highlighted both the opportunities and risks associated with AI tools, including their impact on teaching practices, student learning, academic integrity, assessment design and data privacy. Attention was also given to practical considerations for developing transparent and responsible course policies on the use of AI technologies.

The workshop encouraged participants to reflect on their own approaches to integrating AI into teaching and to promote an informed and balanced use of these technologies within their academic communities.
