FreeAc Lecture Series: Circular Economy for Sustainable Development

screenshot

On 16 December 2025, within the Erasmus+ project Promoting Academic Freedom in Ukraine, coordinated by the University of Graz, a guest lecture by Ukrainian scholar Dr. Kateryna Nesterova took place as part of the Ukrainian Voices lecture series.

The lecture addressed the circular economy as a strategic framework for sustainable development in Ukraine in the context of post war recovery and European integration. The speaker analysed current structural challenges in waste management, resource use and industrial production, highlighting why circular economy principles are particularly relevant for Ukraine at this stage. Drawing on empirical data and policy developments, the lecture demonstrated how circular economy approaches can contribute to environmental protection, economic resilience and institutional reform. Particular attention was paid to alignment with EU environmental standards and to the long term benefits of integrating circular models into national and local development strategies.

A video recording of the lecture will soon be available on the project website.

The Ukrainian Voices series, co-organised by the University of Graz and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, aims to highlight Ukrainian research, foster cooperation, and protect academic freedom during wartime.
