The Padova Model UPR is an academic simulation of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in the UN Human Rights Council organised by an international team of students and former delegates, with the guidance of academics at the Human Rights Center “Antonio Papisca,” and the University of Padova.

It offers participants an indepth understanding of the mechanisms and dynamics of the UPR procedure held in Geneva. Through adopting the roles of State delegates, NGOs, and National Human Rights Institutions, participants will gain experience in the UPR procedure, which involves assessing States’ human rights records and addressing human rights violations.

Applications are accepted from groups whose members are:

  • All International (European and Non-European) students older than 18 years of age;
  • Bachelor students who have completed at least two years of their degree; and
  • Postgraduate students, including Ph.D. candidates, who are studying/researching in the fields of Political Sciences, Human Rights, International Relations, Social Sciences, or Legal Studies.

Furthermore, the deadline for non-Italian universities has been extended to the 6th of October, 2023.

Important: The University of Graz offers the course 229.029 in order to prepare students for the Padova Model UPR. Sign up for the course and acquire knowledge about the UN & UPR and gain practical competences in multilateral human rights negotiations.
