Auftakt des UNESCO Chair in Human Rights and Human Security

Prof. Gerd Oberleitner begrüßte als UNESCO Chair ein hochkarätiges Panel bei der Veranstaltung "Speak Your Mind! - Defending Academic Freedom in Europe".

Aus dem Anlass der Einrichtung des UNESCO Chair in Human Rights and Human Security am UNI-ETC lud Chairholder Prof. Gerd Oberleitner am Abend des 12. Dezember 2016 ins Palais Kottulinsky, wo die Gewährleistung akademischer Freiheit zum Thema der Auftaktveranstaltung gemacht wurde.

Die DiskutantInnen Stephen Wordsworth (CARA - Council for At-Risk Academics), Gabriele Eschig (UNESCO-Vertretung Österreich), Prof. Kerem Ökdem (CSEES) und Prof. Benedek (ehem. Institut für Völkerrecht und int. Beziehungen, UNI-ETC) trugen in der von Oberleitner moderierten Debatte ihre jeweiligen Erfahrungen zum Thema bei. Neben den momentanen Einschränkungen der akademischen Freiheit, bspw. in der Türkei, wurde die Arbeit von CARA und UNESCO diskutiert und in einen größeren Bezugsrahmen gebracht. CARA vermeldete dabei einen rasanten Anstieg der Antragszahlen - zur Zeit fliehen in etwa gleich viele AkademikerInnen wie in den 1930ern.

Der Schutz von WissenschafterInnen als TrägerInnen des gesellschaftlichen Fortschritts stellte für alle DiskutantInnen einen zentralen Faktor für das Vorankommen einer (friedlichen) Gesellschaft dar.

Unesco Chair at Human Rights Conference in Padova

FreeAc: Webinar "Academic Writing with Generative AI Systems"

On the 13th of November 2025, the University of Graz held an online webinar titled “Academic Writing with Generative AI” within the Erasmus+ project “Promoting Academic Freedom in Ukraine (FreeAc)”. The session was designed for students from Ukrainian partner universities to help them understand how generative AI tools influence academic writing and how to use them responsibly.
