At the invitation of the International Law Association (ILA), Gregor Fischer and Gerd Oberleitner lately prepared a report entitled “Localizing International Law, Internationalizing the City - The Human Rights City of Graz”. On Friday, 4 September 2020, they presented their piece in a working session of the ILA Study Group on the Role of Cities in International Law alongside other scholars who delivered insights on Lagos (Nigeria), Prague (Czech Republic), Arusha (Tanzania) and Vienna (Austria).
The ensuing discussions illustrated the diversity of the roles cities have played in international law, and, vice-versa, the role international law has played in and for cities. The Study Group will continue to gather reports on the role of cities in international law and shortly provide the first publications of city reports on a website.
