Summer Insitute: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in STEM

The UNI-ETC points interested parties to the following programme:

This intense week-long interdisciplinary course for Master and PhD students will support and qualify graduate students of all disciplines (engineering and computer science, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, etc.)
- who are interested in doing research on gender and diversity in STEM, and/or
- who would like to include principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in
their own STEM research and proposal writing.

Each day will involve lectures and workshops from a roster of both Concordia and external professors.

Topics include:

  • Biases in algorithms and artificial intelligence
  • Indigenous STEM, pedagogies and methodologies
  • Intersectional analysis of STEM careers
  • Decolonizing STEM knowledge and research
  • Human rights approach applied on STEM
  • EDI in funding and research applications

Highlights:

  • Field trip to Mohawks Territory of Kahnawá:ke to learn and experience Indigenous STEM pedagogy
  • Workshop with representatives from the Natural Sciences and Engineering
    Research Council of Canada (NSERC) on the latest EDI activities

Credits: 3 units
Grade: PASS or FAIL
